Beefeater Restaurants: What Happened to All 106 Sites

Are any Beefeater restaurants still open?

No. Every UK Beefeater closed on Thursday 10 September 2026. Beefeater's own restaurant finder listed 88 restaurants on the morning of closing day, and beefeater.co.uk now redirects to premierinn.com.

Whitbread's closure list named 106 Beefeater restaurants across England, Scotland and Wales. Some buildings are reopening under new owners and new names, but none trade as Beefeater.

Why did Beefeater close?

Whitbread, which owns Premier Inn, decided to become a hotel-only business. It blamed higher costs and taxes, and said it would replace its branded restaurants with an integrated food and drink offer in its hotels.

Whitbread announced on 30 April 2026 that it would close its remaining 197 restaurants, mainly Beefeater and Brewers Fayre, with about 3,800 jobs affected. Its chief executive, Dominic Paul, said the change would 'unlock the addition of more highly profitable extension rooms'. In April 2024 it had already said 112 restaurants would become hotel rooms and 126 would be sold.

The Guardian reported that Whitbread had been pressed by the activist investor Corvex, and that the 2025 Budget's business rates changes would cost it an extra £50m.

What replaced Beefeater at each site?

Most often, Premier Inn's own restaurant at the hotel next door, listed on premierinn.com as 'Premier Inn restaurant'. Every former Beefeater we matched to a hotel with a restaurant shows that name, not Thyme or The Social. That restaurant serves the Premier Inn restaurant menu.

How we matched: we took each Beefeater's address from Beefeater's own pages (Wayback Machine copies) and looked for a Premier Inn hotel within 600 metres (postcodes without a map pin were located with postcodes.io), then checked the restaurant that hotel's premierinn.com page lists. A Premier Inn listing a restaurant does not prove it is in the old Beefeater building, only that it is the hotel's restaurant now. Sites with no archived address or no hotel nearby are marked 'No current listing found'.

Which Beefeaters are now pubs?

Queensway Inns, which bought 53 former Whitbread sites, lists 12 former Beefeaters among its pubs, including Morris Dancers, Carnon Inn, White Hart, The Plough, Broomside Park and Twelve Bells.

Common Table Group says it will reopen 57 former Beefeater, Brewers Fayre and Cookhouse sites, with the first from mid-November 2026, serving all-day food. Sites reported as reopening but not yet on Queensway's list are marked 'reported' in the full table.

Use your browser's find (Ctrl+F or Cmd+F) to search for your local Beefeater by name, for example Harlow Mill, The Haywain, Malta Inn, The Brache or Priory Marina.

Can I still see my local Beefeater's menu?

Every Beefeater used the same national menu, priced in bands by restaurant. The last version, with the cheapest and dearest prices for each dish, is on the Beefeater menu page.

For example, an 8oz sirloin cost £18.99 to £19.99 depending on the restaurant, and the House Mixed Grill £23.49 to £23.99. None of these dishes are on sale now.

Did Brewers Fayre close too?

Yes. Whitbread closed its 89 Brewers Fayre restaurants on 7 September 2026, three days before Beefeater, and ended its loyalty scheme on 31 August 2026.

Like Beefeater, most Brewers Fayre sites sat next to a Premier Inn, and the hotel's own restaurant now serves the same Premier Inn restaurant menu. This site covers Beefeater sites only.
