Brewers Fayre Closed: What Happened to All 89 Restaurants

Are any Brewers Fayre restaurants still open?

No. Whitbread closed all 89 Brewers Fayre restaurants after dinner service on Monday 7 September 2026. Brewers Fayre's own finder listed 73 restaurants five days before, and brewersfayre.co.uk now redirects to premierinn.com.

Some buildings are reopening under new owners and new names, mostly as pubs. The Brewers Fayre name itself has gone: none of the 89 restaurants on the closure list trades as Brewers Fayre.

Why did Brewers Fayre close?

Whitbread, which owns Premier Inn, decided to become a hotel-only business. It closed Brewers Fayre and Beefeater together, blaming higher costs and taxes, and is replacing them with its own restaurants inside Premier Inn hotels.

Whitbread announced on 30 April 2026 that it would shut its remaining 197 branded restaurants, with about 3,800 jobs affected. Its chief executive, Dominic Paul, said the change was needed in light of significant cost increases. Brewers Fayre had run for 45 years: Whitbread founded it in 1981 as a family pub-restaurant chain, best known for its Sunday carvery.

What replaced Brewers Fayre?

Most often, the Premier Inn next door now runs its own restaurant: 65 of 89 former Brewers Fayre sites have a Premier Inn within 600 metres that lists a restaurant. It serves the Premier Inn restaurant menu.

How we matched: each Brewers Fayre's address and map pin come from Brewers Fayre's own restaurant finder (Wayback Machine copies of 28 July 2026, or 8 October 2025 for eight sites missing from it). We then looked for the site on Queensway Inns' pub list, then on the Daily Express list of reopening sites, then for a Premier Inn within 600 metres and the restaurant its premierinn.com page lists. A hotel restaurant nearby does not prove it is in the old Brewers Fayre building.

Which Brewers Fayre restaurants are now pubs?

Queensway Inns, which bought 53 former Whitbread sites to run as value pubs, lists 15 former Brewers Fayre sites among its pubs, including Old Nelson in Stroud, Brampton Hut, Craig House, Kincardine Way and Loggans Moor.

Common Table Group says it will reopen 57 former Beefeater, Brewers Fayre and Cookhouse sites, with the first from mid-November 2026, serving all-day food. The Daily Express list of 12 October 2026 also names The Hampton (Peterborough) and Kembrey Inn (Swindon) as reopening, without saying which group has them.
